Leia Reports on Monday

...except that I don't have much to meow about. It's been pretty quiet here lately.

Although I did HISS at Toby yesterday. Mom doesn't really know why; she
knows we were hanging out in front of the glass door; something happened,
I walked away and as I was carefully, daintily, placing my velvety
tiny paws on the floor, I turned my head and HISSSED at that orange beastly boy.
I've never quite done that before so Mom was very surprised.

Well, a lady keeps her secrets, so she can just keep on wondering.

The thing that Toby was laying on the other day was mom's fleece jacket.
Very, very warm and cuddly. So naturally she takes it back and gives us
a towel in its place. Meh. Not nearly as good.

And yes, we KNOW it's been very cold out there! So what,
we both really liked that jacket.

** a few weeks back, Katie Isabella posted about her mom's kitteh PJs. Our mom has several themed pieces of sleepwear.. so... here's a survey - do your hoomins have themed sleepwear??

Happy Caturday

Now that I'm awake... I have stuff to meow about!

1. Did you know that little hussy girl posts when I'm zonked out?
I don't really think that's FAIR, do you?

2. ... I totally could have, and planned to, yak up a hairball
on that d***ned mat, but she beat me to it. That's not fair either.

3. A totally random fact about ME: It's my job to greet mom when she wakes up every morning.
Lots of the time I'm right on the bed, so it's easy but sometimes I have to come back
from other parts of the house, stopping what I'm doing, just to greet her and
snorgle with her and make sure she knows she's loved.

You younger ones may not realize this, but hoomins are so fragile, they really need
lots of looking after.

And now I have other stuff to do - very IMPAWTANT - stuff, so mom has a few words to say.

Mom's note:

I went to Petsmart looking for a better wand/fishing toy for Leia. It's so hard to find anything that looks truly sturdy and meant for cats with sharp teeth and fast claws. Too many bits that will fall off and get swallowed in a heartbeat. Toby likes watching her be crazy but isn't really into chasing stuff around. But don't try to get between him and his stuffed critter; he gets that nip-high and off he goes.

Also, I noticed Grumpy Cat has a Christmas line of toys. They sure are marketing the tar out of her, aren't they? I've long been a fan of GC, even have a stuffie (for me) but I'm beginning to be slightly uncomfortable. They are making a fortune off her medical condition. It's hard to put into words but ... Maybe it's because I see my cats as family members, and I sure wouldn't want to profit off a condition they had. Obviously she's not aware of this but....

I just hope her quality of life is through the roof with all this.

Leia Claims First Strike !

It was ME!

Less than a day and a half after Mom unwisely brought home this burd mat,
I, Leia the Amazing, yakked up a hairball on it.
(I wanted to show you a picture of my great victory, but Mom said no).

And now, Codd Mother, I think you know which of us kitteh-soldiers is truly the most loyal!

Once again, I rule.

Monday This n Thats

Leia This:

Mom saw me honing my hunting skills with this scrunchie of hers, and OF COURSE got all ooohh and awww about it. Really, I was just keeping it in line; scrunchies are known for serious 'tude.

Toby Thats:

I've spent most of this four day weekend just trying to get in a good nap.
With TWO females here all day and night, it's just been impossible. Plus, do you realize our mom is so obsessed with our... ahem... output schedule that she will deliberately wake us up after a paltry 8 hours to try to remind us it's time to go??

Crazy woman.

Have a great week, furriends.

Another Angel

Our good furriends at Eastside Cats lost their beloved Chuck yesterday.

Sunday, November 19, 2017

Dear Codd Mother, Forgive Us...

for we have failed. We were ... were... INFILTRATED!

And it all happened through our mom, no less. She brought home this mat tonight - with a great big BURD in the middle.
And why? Why???? Because it was cheap! Only $4.

(Plus she was insulting, said I was just going to yak up on it anyway.
It's true we never seem to keep any mats around for long, but still.)

Forgive us, Codd Mother. We are so ashamed.

Thursday Temper Tantrums

And I bet you thought this post would be about MY tantrum but no..... It's mom's tizzy we're meowing about today

The other day she got so frustrated with me she started spouting off gibberish and eventually threatened to... to... " ... If you don't quit it I'm going to do something but I have no idea what so I'll just lose my mind. "

I consulted with Leia. We decided we wouldn't really notice if she did so nothing to worry about.

I can't figure out what the problem is anyways. I've been an excellent orange angel. It's trifling stuff.... Demanding noms RIGHT NOW with a very loud voice... Every meal... And walking off after three tongue fulls. Twisting around her feet or standing right behind her so she trips over me... Early am shenanigans with or without Leia.... Pawing her leg every time I want chicken and/or standing up on my back legs to get them... Just the usual.

Tuesday Two-Fur

As you can see, we are sleeping peacefully. Mom wanted to talk about something, so we are handing today's post over to her.

Mom's note:

In my life I've been bitten in the face three times by dogs. When I was about 4, my grandmother's cocker spaniel. About 10, a neighbor's adult male Boxer, Frodac, nipped me right at the bridge of my nose, breaking the skin. He just barely grazed me, a warning any adult dog would give a puppy. It has always amazed me, the restraint he showed that day. And lastly, working at a vet, a terrier mix named Casey, who turned around and bit the tar out of my upper lip when his owner walked back into the treatment area. I still have the scar. But I've never feared dogs, though Frodac definitely taught me to show a bit more respect! Truly, he was a sweetheart, and we remained good furriends. I still have a tiny scar from that too, but will always remember him with affection.

Over this past weekend, a co worker's granddaughter, about 8, was bitten by their dog. I saw the picture - he got her face when she tried to pet him. A huge bite radius over both cheeks, nose and chin. Severe enough that she required cosmetic surgery. She's doing well, and is more concerned with how her parents are taking it.

I don't know the dog's fate, but I doubt it's good. He wasn't truly a family dog; they live in the country and wanted a dog that would bark. They got that, but clearly they didn't have much idea of his temperament. I suspect he must have had a hard life. Quite possibly mistreated by previous children; this seems fear-based to me. My heart goes out to both child and dog.

Easy Sunday...

will commence as soon as the orange kitteh is found.

Any ideas?

It's Wednesday

This last picture is where I usually sleep when I'm on the bed. Mom can't accidentally kick me here, and if I'm lucky Toby won't sit on my head.

Almost Wordless Wednesday

Because moms never miss a chance to post an embarrassing picture.

Spooky Monday!

Today, I'm glad to share the post with Leia. Some days you just don't want to be alone...

Look, we all know what week this is. Honestly I didn't think too much about it until THIS morning.

Mom was getting ready for work, we were just wandering around and being cats, when -

The kitchen monster tried to eat us! It's true!! Mom said it was nothing****, just some baking sheets falling over in the cabinet and on to the floor, but we know better.

So now we're huddled up together and being watchful. Be careful furriends!!

***** This is why it's always the hoomins that get eaten by the monster!

Trust-Less Tuesday

Dear furriends, can you believe our mom does not trust us?

There I was this morning, sitting quietly, and handsomely, right by the front door. Minding my own catly business, when mom gets ready to leave.

And makes me move! Without so much as a by-your-leave! Tells me she loves me but doesn't trust me not to get out the door.

Well. This cuts, lady. To the quick!

PS: she doesn't trust Leia either.

Happy Caturday

Furriends, we all know that squirrels are EBIL - they taunt us, say rude things.
If only that glass wasn't there.... BUT so much of other outside life is quite rude too. Like grasshoppers, and little lizardy things. Both of which mocked ME this morning. Can you believe it??

So I'm keeping watch right here for the next cheeky critter to show up.

Mom's Note About the Roof:

We rent, so I didn't know that the roof was being replaced until they knocked on the door last Monday morning. Turns out I would have gotten notice from the property manager, except the roofers decided to show up on Monday instead of Wednesday as planned.

Did I mention that Monday had an 80% rain chance? Tuesday-Thursday was to be clear.

This matters because... I get home on Monday at 6 pm and water has poured down through my bedroom ceiling fan, to soak the corner of my bed. The ceiling fan light globe had rainwater collected in it. Why? Because the satellite dish on the roof - the same one the roofers asked me about, and I let them know it was from a previous tenant, so feel free to remove it entirely - was left on the roof and "worked around".

So the water merrily funneled down through its nifty roof hole. And onto my bed. I was so upset I didn't even eat dinner that night.

I stayed home on Tuesday to be with the cats. I had no idea WHAT those idiots were going to do next. And it was pretty awful, so very loud. Leia did ok, Toby was only seen once to use the litterbox, and I had to coax him into doing that.

Never, ever, ever assume the workmen are going to use their brains and common sense.
Also, you get what you pay for - choose the cheapest, you get that too.

A New Adventure

Oh my Ceiling Cat, dear furriends, you cannot imagine what we just went through.
I am so exhausted now, I simply can't get out of bed.

Yeah, I'm just gonna hang out here and try to forget Monday and Tuesday *ever* happened.

Two words: roof replacement.

Mancat Monday

Meows, furriends!

Well, not much new going on here... y'all already know about MS. Leia's
female insistences... but *I* know everyone really wanted to see
my handsome orange face.

So here I am!

We're finally getting some cooling off temps but this being Florida,
it doesn't mean a whole lot. My back end is starting to bother me a little bit again;
my arth-er-it-is flaring back up, I guess. Pesky thing.

Here's hoping to a great week for all of us.

PS: Ireland, we are really sorry Ophelia is heading your way.

Leia Takes Over Monday

Yep, I'm doing Monday too; I have more to say.
I told Orange Boy he was just going to have to wait.

Do you want to know what he said? He said... "whatev" and rolled over to go back to sleep.

So, here is the thing: I'm 13 + years old now. A very mature ladycat, you see.
And do you know what Mom STILL calls me? "Young lady" and sometimes "MISS Leia".

Yesterday morning I sat Mom down and was VERY firm on this -
in future I am to be addressed as "MS. Leia".

And refer to me as a dignified mature Princess.

She said she understood. Of course she did, she's a female too.

Thursday, October 5, 2017

Yeah, Mom caught me the other night. I was just meditating in this pawsome box,
and she walked out of her bedroom at just the wrong time.
With her cell phone RIGHT THERE.

I have only thing to meow:

Mancat Monday

Feline Photo Ops:

Here we both were snuggled up to the pillows,
head up, each of us looking intently at Mom.

Leia, showing off her advanced boxing skills.

Both of us again, me on the blankie, Leia lounging on the big cat pillow.
Nearly touching.

Weren't these GREAT?
Mom did some serious squeeing.

Oh, wait, that's right, you don't see anything do you?

:: ebil kitteh snickers::

That's because we made SURE mom was nowhere near her camera
when we showed off our excellent photogenic abilities.

Best way to ruin a photo op: don't let it happen in the first place!

Class dismissed.

Goodbye, Zuzu

How many more beautiful feline furriends must we lose this year?

Zuzu from Colehaus Cats has, very unexpectedly, gone on to the Bridge.

We were there when she came into her family's lives,
and read the stories of the Niblet Countdown, and watched the Niblets themselves grow up.

She left too soon.

Pawhugs to her family from us all.

And also, this is a good time to say to all our furriends how much we care about you, and enjoy visiting your blogs to see what you are doing. Our Cat Blogosphere is a very special community, and we take great pride and happiness from being part of that.

It's Wednesday

Happy Wednesday!

Now, I need all our furriends to know - that little hussy girl is NOT the only great hunter in this house.

Just last night I let Mom know there was something under the oven. I had to make it clear - we all know how slow hooomins can be - but finally she laid down on the floor with a flashlight and saw what I already knew.

A teeny, tiny lizardy thing. She finally got the message that under or behind the stove is a lizardy on ramp into the house.

Unfortunately this means some noisy stranger will come into the house soon to move the oven so holes can be patched up. And cleaned under there. Apparently all the dust and icks of the ages reside under it. She stuffed some cloth under the stove to hold back the lizard hordes for now.

So take THAT, Leia.

** With great sadness we mark the passing of one of the Kitteh Blogosphere's shining lights. Dear Phoebe, you will be greatly missed. Pawhugs to you and your family.

Happy Caturday

Happy Caturday to all our furriends.

Can you believe we just ticked the calender over into fall??
If you live in the Southeast, sure doesn't feel like it!

So, today, we wanted to show you a picture Mom took of me,
the unbelievably purrfect and brave Leia.

Now, we know this isn't really a "good" picture, it was more of an accident,
but it does have a certain noir quality that we really liked.

I look like one of those mystery interviewees on a tv show.

And here is another shot, with more light.

Enjoy your weekend!

**Our sweet furriend Phoebe is having a tough time right now, medically.
Our thoughts and purrayers are with her and her family.

Furriends & Fellow Bloggers, Lend Us Your Ears....

Rainbow Bridge New Resident
Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of Zoe (Animal Shelter Volunteer Life), a beautiful housepanther who passed away very recently. We grieve with her family; we rejoice knowing she was very well loved. Please visit her family.

Because both of ours are wonky at the moment! I, the beauteous and brave and mighty Princess Leia, was diagnosed yesterday with ::whispers:: chiggers in one ear. HOW does that happen? No lady should ever have chiggers in the ear, it's just embarrassing. The vet guy gave me a shot of something (Ivermectin) and said that would hopefully kill the irritating little bug. But he didn't seem too sure about that, so maybe somebody out there has a suggestion for us.

And Toby, well, he definitely has infections in both ears (but no chiggers!). Yeast in one, bacteria in the other. He had to have his ears washed out (today and regularly), AND they really violated his dignity and his privacy AND his purrsonhood by attending to his ::more whispers:: anal glands.

On the whole, I think the anal gland thing is worse than chiggers.

Stay healthy, guys. We all know where we have to go if we don't!

Home, Safe.

We hate to say this was the storm that wasn't, but by the time Irma arrived, it wasn't nearly what we had been told we would be getting. These things happen. We are all extremely happy to be back home. Thanks to everyone for their purrayers and good wishes for us.

We will just post a few pics from our Big Family Adventure and go get some sleep:

Final Preparations - Please Pray for Us

I'm taking a quick break from my prep work to move us to my workplace. The above is the room I've staked out. My sister will join us there. I think we should be reasonably comfy, at least until the power goes out.

The weather is getting scarier. Voluntary evac. for Leon County - which has NEVER been evac'd before. Except for those in mobile homes. Other people will be entering the building as well. The Red Cross decided to move their shelter to a nearby school, so we have room. I'm glad there will be a few, but not many, others in the building.

I'm packing for two levels: immediate needs until at least Tuesday morning. And in case I return to complete devastation, I'm also packing those items I must have in case I need to rebuild, like my laptop, e-reader, iPod and all the cats' food, medications, plus their favorite items. Also, critical documents like my birth certificate and SS card. I made a list! I love lists.

The danger with Harvey was massive flooding; Irma is bringing high winds, sustained winds. Frame houses are likely to suffer structural collape (roof gone, walls cave in) - which my renter's insurance WILL pay for. I have a basic policy, as long as the water enters somewhere other than the bottom.

The cats are freaked. Both are in hiding, however they can't get under the bed. We all know how much fun it is getting a cat out from under the bed.

I don't know when power will be restored. I'm reasonably confident that we will be quite safe in the other building. Past that, I cannot say what my life will be like post-Irma. Probably it will be nothing more than inconvenient.

And now my laptop is powering down and will be packed away. I hope to post an update in a couple of days. Please pray for all of us in Irma's path.

- Toby, Leia and Cathy

Freaky, Fussy Friday

So, Mom says there is a great big meanie out there called Irma, and
she's apparently headed more or less in our direction. Depending on the day and time of day.
It keeps changing.

So, she's frazzled. And we naturally, are doing our best to keep her calm. This can be really hard to do, if you have our kind of hoomin. She says we may have to leave our home to go shelter two miles down the road. We definitely don't wanna leave but if the winds get bad enough...

So hang in there, guys, if any of our furriends are in the path of this monster.

We're going back to sleep in case we need our strength soon.

My workplace (a nice big, solid, brick building) is now a Red Cross shelter, right now for evacuees from S. Florida and the Keys.
We live in Tallahassee, FL; at 7 am we had almost no weather to worry about, at 2 pm it was going to be a horrible mess, and at 5 pm, we're back on track for a not too bad serving of Irma (about Monday).

We live in a frame duplex. A Cat. 1 should be fine, but if it gets higher... I literally have a sign on a room door at work reserving it for us! It's a small room with three couches. Much nicer than a cot. But really, it's for the cats. I'm just incidental here.

Here's the truly insane part: only two major Interstates out of Florida. It's all gridlocked. Hotels are impossible to find; gas shortages due to evacuees mean a lot of people are likely to run out of gas on the open highway. And there's a storm coming...

Oh, and because the track keeps shifting - they keep calling for more evacuations!

Mancat Monday

Happy Labor Day Monday!

Look at these pictures, I ask you.

What do you, fellow felines, see?

Yep, a peacefully sleeping mancat. Dignified, handsome.

Pretty much, with a DO NOT TOUCH sign on me.

What do HOOMINS see?

SQUEEE!!! Pile of warm orange smooshy furs!
Bring on the Finger Snorgle Monsters!

And with the ever popular, face rubbing in my tummy, too.

There's just no training them NOT TO.
