A New Adventure

Oh my Ceiling Cat, dear furriends, you cannot imagine what we just went through.
I am so exhausted now, I simply can't get out of bed.

Yeah, I'm just gonna hang out here and try to forget Monday and Tuesday *ever* happened.

Two words: roof replacement.

Mancat Monday

Meows, furriends!

Well, not much new going on here... y'all already know about MS. Leia's
female insistences... but *I* know everyone really wanted to see
my handsome orange face.

So here I am!

We're finally getting some cooling off temps but this being Florida,
it doesn't mean a whole lot. My back end is starting to bother me a little bit again;
my arth-er-it-is flaring back up, I guess. Pesky thing.

Here's hoping to a great week for all of us.

PS: Ireland, we are really sorry Ophelia is heading your way.

Leia Takes Over Monday

Yep, I'm doing Monday too; I have more to say.
I told Orange Boy he was just going to have to wait.

Do you want to know what he said? He said... "whatev" and rolled over to go back to sleep.

So, here is the thing: I'm 13 + years old now. A very mature ladycat, you see.
And do you know what Mom STILL calls me? "Young lady" and sometimes "MISS Leia".

Yesterday morning I sat Mom down and was VERY firm on this -
in future I am to be addressed as "MS. Leia".

And refer to me as a dignified mature Princess.

She said she understood. Of course she did, she's a female too.

Mouses!!

Yeah, Mom caught me the other night. I was just meditating in this pawsome box,
and she walked out of her bedroom at just the wrong time.
With her cell phone RIGHT THERE.

I have only thing to meow:
PLBBBBTTTT.

Mancat Monday

Feline Photo Ops:

We were ADORABLE!

Seriously.

Here we both were snuggled up to the pillows,
head up, each of us looking intently at Mom.

Leia, showing off her advanced boxing skills.

Both of us again, me on the blankie, Leia lounging on the big cat pillow.
Nearly touching.

Weren't these GREAT?
Mom did some serious squeeing.

Oh, wait, that's right, you don't see anything do you?

:: ebil kitteh snickers::

That's because we made SURE mom was nowhere near her camera
when we showed off our excellent photogenic abilities.

Best way to ruin a photo op: don't let it happen in the first place!

Class dismissed.

Goodbye, Zuzu

How many more beautiful feline furriends must we lose this year?

Zuzu from Colehaus Cats has, very unexpectedly, gone on to the Bridge.

We were there when she came into her family's lives,
and read the stories of the Niblet Countdown, and watched the Niblets themselves grow up.

She left too soon.

Pawhugs to her family from us all.

And also, this is a good time to say to all our furriends how much we care about you, and enjoy visiting your blogs to see what you are doing. Our Cat Blogosphere is a very special community, and we take great pride and happiness from being part of that.

It's Wednesday

Happy Wednesday!

Now, I need all our furriends to know - that little hussy girl is NOT the only great hunter in this house.

Just last night I let Mom know there was something under the oven. I had to make it clear - we all know how slow hooomins can be - but finally she laid down on the floor with a flashlight and saw what I already knew.

A teeny, tiny lizardy thing. She finally got the message that under or behind the stove is a lizardy on ramp into the house.

Unfortunately this means some noisy stranger will come into the house soon to move the oven so holes can be patched up. And cleaned under there. Apparently all the dust and icks of the ages reside under it. She stuffed some cloth under the stove to hold back the lizard hordes for now.

So take THAT, Leia.

** With great sadness we mark the passing of one of the Kitteh Blogosphere's shining lights. Dear Phoebe, you will be greatly missed. Pawhugs to you and your family.

Happy Caturday

Happy Caturday to all our furriends.

Can you believe we just ticked the calender over into fall??
If you live in the Southeast, sure doesn't feel like it!

So, today, we wanted to show you a picture Mom took of me,
the unbelievably purrfect and brave Leia.

Now, we know this isn't really a "good" picture, it was more of an accident,
but it does have a certain noir quality that we really liked.

I look like one of those mystery interviewees on a tv show.

And here is another shot, with more light.

Enjoy your weekend!

**Our sweet furriend Phoebe is having a tough time right now, medically.
Our thoughts and purrayers are with her and her family.

Furriends & Fellow Bloggers, Lend Us Your Ears....

Rainbow Bridge New Resident
Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of Zoe (Animal Shelter Volunteer Life), a beautiful housepanther who passed away very recently. We grieve with her family; we rejoice knowing she was very well loved. Please visit her family. http://animalsheltervolunteer.blogspot.com/2017/09/fly-free-sweet-zoe.html

Because both of ours are wonky at the moment! I, the beauteous and brave and mighty Princess Leia, was diagnosed yesterday with ::whispers:: chiggers in one ear. HOW does that happen? No lady should ever have chiggers in the ear, it's just embarrassing. The vet guy gave me a shot of something (Ivermectin) and said that would hopefully kill the irritating little bug. But he didn't seem too sure about that, so maybe somebody out there has a suggestion for us.

And Toby, well, he definitely has infections in both ears (but no chiggers!). Yeast in one, bacteria in the other. He had to have his ears washed out (today and regularly), AND they really violated his dignity and his privacy AND his purrsonhood by attending to his ::more whispers:: anal glands.

:pawse:

On the whole, I think the anal gland thing is worse than chiggers.

Stay healthy, guys. We all know where we have to go if we don't!

Home, Safe.

We hate to say this was the storm that wasn't, but by the time Irma arrived, it wasn't nearly what we had been told we would be getting. These things happen. We are all extremely happy to be back home. Thanks to everyone for their purrayers and good wishes for us.

We will just post a few pics from our Big Family Adventure and go get some sleep:

Final Preparations - Please Pray for Us

I'm taking a quick break from my prep work to move us to my workplace. The above is the room I've staked out. My sister will join us there. I think we should be reasonably comfy, at least until the power goes out.

The weather is getting scarier. Voluntary evac. for Leon County - which has NEVER been evac'd before. Except for those in mobile homes. Other people will be entering the building as well. The Red Cross decided to move their shelter to a nearby school, so we have room. I'm glad there will be a few, but not many, others in the building.

I'm packing for two levels: immediate needs until at least Tuesday morning. And in case I return to complete devastation, I'm also packing those items I must have in case I need to rebuild, like my laptop, e-reader, iPod and all the cats' food, medications, plus their favorite items. Also, critical documents like my birth certificate and SS card. I made a list! I love lists.

The danger with Harvey was massive flooding; Irma is bringing high winds, sustained winds. Frame houses are likely to suffer structural collape (roof gone, walls cave in) - which my renter's insurance WILL pay for. I have a basic policy, as long as the water enters somewhere other than the bottom.

The cats are freaked. Both are in hiding, however they can't get under the bed. We all know how much fun it is getting a cat out from under the bed.

I don't know when power will be restored. I'm reasonably confident that we will be quite safe in the other building. Past that, I cannot say what my life will be like post-Irma. Probably it will be nothing more than inconvenient.

And now my laptop is powering down and will be packed away. I hope to post an update in a couple of days. Please pray for all of us in Irma's path.

- Toby, Leia and Cathy

Freaky, Fussy Friday

So, Mom says there is a great big meanie out there called Irma, and
she's apparently headed more or less in our direction. Depending on the day and time of day.
It keeps changing.

So, she's frazzled. And we naturally, are doing our best to keep her calm. This can be really hard to do, if you have our kind of hoomin. She says we may have to leave our home to go shelter two miles down the road. We definitely don't wanna leave but if the winds get bad enough...

So hang in there, guys, if any of our furriends are in the path of this monster.

We're going back to sleep in case we need our strength soon.

Mom:
My workplace (a nice big, solid, brick building) is now a Red Cross shelter, right now for evacuees from S. Florida and the Keys.
We live in Tallahassee, FL; at 7 am we had almost no weather to worry about, at 2 pm it was going to be a horrible mess, and at 5 pm, we're back on track for a not too bad serving of Irma (about Monday).

We live in a frame duplex. A Cat. 1 should be fine, but if it gets higher... I literally have a sign on a room door at work reserving it for us! It's a small room with three couches. Much nicer than a cot. But really, it's for the cats. I'm just incidental here.

Here's the truly insane part: only two major Interstates out of Florida. It's all gridlocked. Hotels are impossible to find; gas shortages due to evacuees mean a lot of people are likely to run out of gas on the open highway. And there's a storm coming...

Oh, and because the track keeps shifting - they keep calling for more evacuations!

Mancat Monday

Happy Labor Day Monday!

Look at these pictures, I ask you.

What do you, fellow felines, see?

Yep, a peacefully sleeping mancat. Dignified, handsome.

Pretty much, with a DO NOT TOUCH sign on me.

Right?

What do HOOMINS see?

SQUEEE!!! Pile of warm orange smooshy furs!
Bring on the Finger Snorgle Monsters!

And with the ever popular, face rubbing in my tummy, too.

There's just no training them NOT TO.

Remembrance Day

We just found out today is Rainbow Remembrance Day,
so we wanted to honor those who have gone before.

This is all but one of the gang from many, many years ago.
The woofie was Skippy, the sweetest Dachshund ever to walk the earth.

Skippy LOVED little kids. Especially at Halloween. Handing out candy to tiny tots in costume was one of her most favoritest things ever. And walks? Oh my. That dog was a walking powerhouse! But don't let a thunderstorm pop up, because she hated those with a great passion. No sleep for anyone those nights.

Next up - Tiger, the tabby lounging on Mom. She looks so much like me, Leia, doesn't she? A lot of the same sweetness too.

And Yasmina, the lovely gray and white lady on the end. Mostly, Mina. She was given to Mom when she worked for a Stabby Place so long ago (yes, this was a great betrayal!, how could she work there??). Her people just left her when she was 8 weeks old and never came back. Plus, they named her BABY. Oh, don't get Mom started on the inappropriateness of such a name. Mina had the most regal demeanor, even as a wee one. She also had a life long battle with cystitis.

And finally, this guy:

Meet Munchkin. This picture and his name did not do him justice, really. Mom got him when she worked for a different Stabby Place. He was about 3 weeks old, and when she met him, he was guarding his sibling with ferocity in the cage.

He grew very tall, and long, and lean. A mighty hunter always. And he would N O T be kept inside. Really, he was feral at heart, though also sweet. He enjoyed inside and normally was in at night, but he simply found ways to get out. Mom is huge on indoor only cats but occasionally, there are those that will not conform.

Mom's favorite story? The day he brought in a snake. She opened the door to let him in without really looking at him (he would hang off the window pane until someone let him in) and failed to see he was carrying a black snake; he dropped it so he could get some water, came back to find it - which was under Mom's feet at the time. Good thing she's short!

**Skippy, Munchkin and Tiger were co-parented. All four lived very long lives.
***All pictures were pre-camera phone era.

It's Wednesday

Yeah, I know, mom is still all gushy about that little girl and her great hunting ability.

I could have gotten that lizard, y'know. If I'd REALLY wanted to. But clearly, I was busy doing impawtant stuff.

So there!

PS: mom, turn off the lights!!

Breaking News!! "I Rule" - Leia

I, Leia, may be a tiny Princess but I will bite you in three pieces and
run off with the biggest part to eat.

Mom didn't know until today, but I knew - there was a lizardy thing in here.
I've been carefully, patiently, monitoring the situation the last couple of nights.

Today, Mom saw the wriggler in the kitchen and well... she's not like me, she has no hunting ability, only the very polished ability to freak out over stuff. But her useless efforts did alert me it was time to head back into the kitchen and deal with this once and for all.

And I did. It took about two hours of patiently sitting in the kitchen,
mostly by the fridge where Mom saw it scurry under, until it emerged and ...

P O U N C E!! Splat! Kow Pow! EPIC battles!

Tail in TWO pieces, not one, but was I distracted by those wiggly bits?

NOOOOOO... I knew to go right for the big piece, where all the good stuff is.

And then I grabbed it and ran off to the bedroom to show Toby, and possibly to share with him.
Unfortunately Mom saw me scamper by with my prize.
I dropped it, she grabbed a throw to toss over it and scoop it up,
where it was deposited outside.

 (this is my disappointed face)

Drat. I am getting very high praise though, so that's something.

And Toby? Well....

He made an appearance after the fact to see what the fuss was all about.
And just between us, he's got about as much hunting ability as Mom does!

I rule. - Leia

Mom:
as far as I know, the lizard is still alive. The tails are made to come off, and I didn't kill him, just tossed him out the back door. Please, never come back.

Mom's Orange Helper

I have *always* been a great help to Mom.

All the things I do around here! I make sure she gets up to feed us...
and give her early morning pre-work snorgle times...
supervise everything that goes on... the list is endless.

Here I am helping her put together her poster board of Grand Admiral Thrawn (Star Wars) drawings.
It's impawtant work, she couldn't do it without my feline assistance.

Mom, I really don't feel this is the best placement for this particular drawing.
It should go over THERE.

Happy Caturday to all!

A GASP! On Caturday

::Toby: I am NOT talking about this. No way, no how. So I'm sending in
Cornelius Croc to speak for me::

Uh... hi!!

It's been awhile since I've hosted the bloggie of my BFF Toby and her Most Royal Supreme Highness, Leia. Today, Toby is V E R Y upset and just can't bring himself to -

:Toby: she THREW it at me! at MY HEAD!!::

Umm.... ok.. continuing on...
I can confirm that there was a very unfortunate incident here at Bloggie HQ.

::the Lady - tell everyone it was an ACCIDENT!!!::

Yes, ma'am! It was an accident, absolutely, not intended at all -

::Toby: I don't care! I'm TRAUMATIZED::

.. Maybe we should just have the Dramatic Re-enactment now. Cue picture evidence:

Credit: Grumpy Cat as Toby in this Dramatic Re-enactment.

And now the Official Statement:
Approximately 1:15 pm today, the Lady, upon completion of a lot of very hot and messy yardwork, opened the front door and tossed in her headphones and iPod prior to coming in herself.
Without looking.

This, sadly, landed square upon Toby, who was about where G C is now.
This did not go well.

::Toby: my head! MY HEAD! Or maybe some other body part,
I can't remember but it landed on me!!::

::the Lady: I didn't MEAN TO!::

Cornelius the Croc:
You know, this SpokesCroc stuff is really hard some days.

It's Wednesday

Yeah, yeah, Orange Boy, I know all about your "exhaustion" attack. ::rolls eyes::

Moving on... This is an ottoman/storage bench we've had for a few years but
recently Mom cleared it off and made me a comfy little bed, so now I love it!

PS: Brody, do you want to teleport over and nap with me? I'll move over a bit.

Nearly Wordless Wednesday

Mom, I would NEVER try to keep Leia from getting into her little house.

The very idea !

I merely collapsed here from sheer exhaustion. She can leap over me.

Easy Sunday

Today I got my nails trimmed, against my express wishes. Mom tried to tell me that
ALL the best people get their nails done by someone else,
but I can't help feeling darkly suspicious of this statement.

- Leia

Mom is always on the look out for the next embarrassing picture.
As per this one. And then she threatens the Snorgle Tummy Monster Fingers.

And since we have had enough attention from mom for one day,
we're graciously allowing her to post this picture from the Petsmart
parking lot this morning. She said there were actually
6  woofies in that truck.

She wasn't the only one to snap a picture of this!

Finally Friday

We made it!! Best wishes - or fishes - or both - for a fine weekend for us all.

A few random things:

1. We never told mom what was so fascinating in our Wednesday picture. We like to stay mysterious. It's a Cat Thing.

2. Speaking of mysterious... Mom cannot understand why, when we have two plates of food, exactly the same, we insist on eating out of the same dish at the same time. Remarkably, no smacky paws or rude remarks of any kind, just down to business.

3. Or, when we have three litterboxes, two of them side by side, we almost always both use the same box. She'll come home and there are multiple outputs. In the same box. With the other two in pristine shape.

And finally, I leave you with this passing thought:

It's not always a good idea to insist on waking mom up in the wee hours.
Repeatedly. Some of the things she says.... !!!

- Toby

- - but not Leia, because she's a girl and girls are smarter than that!

Rest Thee Well, Mayor Stubbs

Today we gather to pay our respects to Mayor Stubbs, ruler of Talkeetna, Alaska,
for most of his 20 years. He passed to the Bridge very recently.

Sir, you upheld your high office with dignity and fairness, and were a
shining example of what a cat of determination and strength
can accomplish in the hoomin world. We need more kittehs in office!

(Summer, we expect to hear of your political bid VERY SOON!)

Let us all raise a glass of water with nip in your memory.

It Was Just a Little One....

Seriously, mom, I barely put my teeth on you. Just the tiniest nibble!

No sense of humor. Sighs.

Sunday Sorta Selfie

This is the best we're gonna do today for selfies.
Naps are just too impawtant to let anything interfere with them.

Mom says this is my bed-fur-head look.

*I* think she's making fun of me. Again. She does that.

Leia's Latest:

She had her re-check UA on Wednesday.
The vet said she looked good except for some red blood cells,
probably caused by taking the sample in the first place.
That she didn't need any more antibiotics. I trusted his judgment.

Which was fine until Friday afternoon when she started in with her second UTI.
At least they didn't force me to bring her in on Friday too.
